My Why & Purpose

What is your Why & your Purpose?

Hello, I’ve gotten to know many of you the via your post, live videos & some of you even reached out personally via DM. It has been a great pleasure meeting you all!

Hopefully you’ve gotten to know me somewhat because I’ve shared pieces of me on my IG posts, bio & here on my blog. But, I’d like to formally introduce myself, I am Veronica Fleming, founder of #IAmMySistersMirror. #IAmMySistersMirror is a personal blog & evolving brand. Focusing mainly on positive Imagery of African-American women and black culture in general, I aim to blog about a variety of things, including trendy topics, current events, lifestyle, health & wellness etc.. However, I want my brand to evolve into more than just a blog, this is why a major a part of brand is focused on charity and service. My why & my purpose sprouted from the greatest loss, I’ve ever endured and is deeply rooted in honoring a legacy.

On November 22, 2018, I lost my mom. She transitioned on one of her favorite holidays, Thanksgiving day. Momma had two favorite holidays, Christmas was her other favorite. Every year mom would have dad purchase & put up a real Christmas tree, my siblings and I would wait anxiously for dad to arrive with our tree. The house was always filled with the aroma of cookies backing while we detangled lights, sorted ornaments and decorated our tree. After everyone had gone to bed, I’d always sneak downstairs to sit at the bottom of the steps and watch the Christmas tree lights flicker on and off in awe; the way they illuminated our house was magical to me. The weeks leading to Christmas, Mom along with dad would fight through the Christmas crowds at shopping malls, ensuring all four of my siblings and I had plenty of gifts under the tree, come Christmas morning.

Thanksgiving, was no exception, mom would always set a beautiful table, the feasts she prepared for us were unmatched. She’d stay up until the wee hours of the morning preparing
Thanksgiving meal for our family. I’d see her watching the family smiling, as we gathered around to watch TV after we had stuffed ourselves with her labor of love.

While I love the memories I have because of my mom & will always cherish them, those were the traditions that she & dad established for their family. As an adult, I realized I wanted to establish my own traditions, also, my family dynamics are different. While I do have nieces and nephews, I have yet to have children of my own; I am no longer fascinated by Christmas tree lights and I absolutely hate going to malls or anywhere else to shop around the holidays.

My mom started these traditions for our family, not only because she loved us, but
she was a giver by nature and she had a spirit of service in her, whether she was at church, work or with her family & friends.

I inherited both of those traits from mom, giver and spirit of service, but I have started my own traditions. Every year for Christmas, I have been picking 2 charitable causes to give to. To no surprise, my traditions align with my evolving brand, allows me be my own, while still honoring the legacy of my mom.

#IAmMySistersMirror first charitable initiative is called #SippingWithPurpose. I’m selling my mugs for $10, each ($3 flat shipping rate). The coffee/tea mugs simply have my logo and 100% of the proceeds will go to my charitable cause.
